Major project: Crime in Context – Using interactive media to interrupt the dominant media narrative of true crime serial killers as we move from glorification of criminals to the truth
This project aims to use the social media platform Instagram to highlight the truth of true crime serial killers and what they have done. In doing so the aim is to interrupt the media narrative of the glorification of serial killers which many receive after their crimes. The genre of true crime has grown at a rapid rate especially in recent years along with the growth of new media outputs such as streaming services and podcasts. With violence such a key category of entertainment, this leads to these real-life violent acts and their truth being falsified and dramatised for creators to achieve financial gain. In this project only the sickening truth is told.
