Major project: Familiar – A Virtual Tour

Familiar – An interactive 360 virtual tour to provide support for those with special educational needs (SEN) when going on residential trips. The aim of this project is to provide a resource so those with SEN can become familiar with a location before they arrive. This project is based on an activity/residential centre and their accommodation. The project consists on an online tour around two of their accommodation buildings to allow those with additional needs to look around and get to know where they will stay. This tour is aimed to be used by teachers and those who support pupils with SEN to use this in their preparation stage to show the children where they will be staying. This project was inspired by my job, working in an activity residential centre with a wide range of groups, all with individual needs. After Covid-19 we noticed a large number of groups wanting to preview the site before they came to stay and the idea for this project came as a solution to help those travelling to the centre. The project is captured using the Insta360 Pro2 camera, this allowed me to capture fine detail and high resolution images making the tour as strong as possible. Familiar is a project I was very passionate about and had a desire to develop. This is a field that is often neglected and one that requires resources to be developed for. It allowed me to blend my everyday working job and my university skills to create a practical resource providing valuable possibilities to those with special educational needs.
